Fanatics of underworld doom and slow-motion classic metal rejoice in the impending wake of Absolution, the debut album by Denver-based quartet, KHEMMIS, as the band issues the first single from the record, in the form of album opener, “Torn Asunder.”
Through the devastating clarity of the production by Dave Otero’s Flatline Audio (Cobalt, Nightbringer, Cephalic Carnage), generations of doom influence are incorporated into the construct of KHEMMIS’ Absolution, from its foundation aspects to its modern delivery. While each of its six sprawling and empowering works are like a conduit to the genus of the genre, the opening track to the LP lays the groundwork for the contemporary relevance of the album, which now sees its public debut via Decibel, who offers of its premiere, “‘Torn Asunder’ marches forward with an authority that belies the three-year-old outfit’s age.”

KHEMMIS Live:
8/01/2015 Hi-Dive – Denver, CO * Absolutionrelease show w/ Native Daughters, Of Feather And Bone
Over the past decade, 20 Buck Spin has worked with top acts in the crowded doom genre; bands as diverse as Samothrace, Graves At Sea, Pallbearer, Yob, Mournful Congregation, Lycus, Atlantean Kodex and more. In that tradition, the label welcomes KHEMMIS, who, on their Absolution debut brings components of many of the aforementioned label alumni and forge a venerable testament to what heavy doom rock is in 2015. The six meticulously crafted songs on Absolution reveal a level of musicianship and writing skill seldom heard on debut albums. Often within the scope of a single song, KHEMMIS veers effortlessly between the crushing heaviness of Southern sludge and the somber melodies of traditional doom metal, cohesively weaving the disparate styles into their own immediately recognizable form. Vocally, KHEMMIS also utilizes a dual approach, sometimes harsh and guttural, but generally through a stunningly smooth classic doom/heavy rock delivery, and the powerfully adept rhythm section perfectly anchors the towering riff mastery and colorful dual guitar harmonies. The album’s Fantastic Frazetta-inspired cover art was created by Sam Turner (Speedwolf, Black Breath, Trve Brewing).
