MÖTLEY CRÜE today officially announced they are retiring as a band. They will first play a final tour of 70 shows around the world, with tickets going on sale Friday, starting at $15. Alice Cooper has been named as their opening act. And to show they are not kidding around — the boys even signed a legal contract stating that they’re indeed retiring and this is the final Crue tour.
The band — Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee — rose to fame in the early 80’s as a glam metal act in the crowded Hollywood music scene. They went on to have great success and became one of the biggest rock music acts of all times, selling 100 million records and touring the world over and over. They were self destructive rockers to the extreme, battling the law, drugs and alcohol, but one thing remains the same to this very day… it’s always been about the music for Crue.
While it’s certainly a sad day for rock n roll, one can’t help but applaud Crue for going out on top and not just hanging around way past their expiration date. More bands should learn from this, but we all know they won’t.
