With the official North American release of their new full-length, Obsideo, nearly two weeks away, Dutch progressive metal extremists, PESTILENCE offer up a premiere of the new track “Aura Negative”.

Produced by vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mameli, Obsideo, which means “to besiege,” is the band’s inaugural recording for Candlelight Records and first new material from the four-piece since 2011. Obsideo boasts Mameli and his innovative guitar work. Utilizing eight-string guitars for the album’s recording, the celebrated musician expands his already massive arsenal of riffs. Together with long-time guitarist Patrick Uterwijk, Mameli, bassist George Maier and drummer Dave Haley deliver a scorching, genre-defying effort. Apeshit calls Obsideo, “one of the catchiest death metal albums to come along recently,” and, “a good return to form for one of the genre’s pioneers,” while AngryMetalGuy elaborates, “New drummer David Haly (Blood Duster, Psycroptic) is a Godsend and throws down a whirlwind of dynamic fills and rolls while laying waste to his kit in service of these hyper-kinetic nuggets of mayhem. I found my ears locking into to what the drums were doing way more than usual, and with so much else going on, that’s a testament to his performance.” Adds Metal Reviews, “Obsideo has smoothly combined both sides of the PESTILENCE sound, old and new, and the resulting merger sounds pretty damn good.”

Formed in 1986, PESTILENCE took influence from early American and German thrash metal to cultivate its now signature death metal sound. Recording four albums before disbanding in 1994, the band helped to usher the rise in popularity for the genre. Fourteen years later the band reformed; releasing two albums and exciting fans with live performances around the globe. “Mameli and company chose to steer efforts down paths previously unexplored whilst maintaining their vintage essence,” noted Chronicles of Chaos on the band’s 2009 album, Resurrection Macabre (Mascot). PESTILENCE plans to begin touring in support of Obsideo in the early months of 2014 with North America to be included in their worldwide takeover.

Obsideo will be released in North America via Candlelight Records on November 11th.
