Jose Mangin has revealed the news via video that the axe has been brought down once again on Headbangers Ball. Since July 21, 2011, Jose Mangin took over as host of Headbangers Ball; which at the end was a web only show. Watch the video HERE.
“Right now, it doesn’t really cost [MTV] anything, ’cause I do it — I host it, produce it, edit it and do it all myself,” Mangin said. “But I guess it’s just the odd man out of their lineup.”
That’s how I felt when I wrote for MTV News. I remember every editorial meeting like it was yesterday, and the same old joke I’d hear when it was time to tell everyone what stories I was working on. “So, what’s the latest on Cattle Decapitation,” an editor would quip. The newsroom would laugh. They didn’t know what they were missing out on.
He continued: “They do a lot of hip hop, and they support that music fully. They used to support rock. Some day, somebody will be there and they’ll be, like, ‘Why aren’t we doing something with rock music?’
“But in the meantime, I’ve been honored to do it for four years, to be with it, involved with special events, and then since I took it over, producing and doing programming. Just to say those words together in one sentence, or even just by themselves, meant a lot for me, ’cause since I was a little kid, that was my show that introduced me to wanting to bring metal to the masses.”
For more than twenty years, thrashers have tuned in to the Headbangers Ball. It got pulled off the air orginally in 1995 (w/host Riki Rachtman) and then brought back in 2003 with Jamey Jasta (vocalist of HATEBREED) for four years and then killed again in 2007. Mangin stepped in afterward and became web host only in 2011.
