American heavy metal vocalist Randy Blythe of LAMB OF GOD band is still being held against his will two weeks after being arrested in Prague, Czech Republic for the alleged death of a fan by his hand at a Club Abaton concert in the city over two years ago on May 24th, 2012, wherein the young stage diver lost his life weeks later due to bleeding on the brain from a reported blow to the head apparently suffered both on stage and when he fell off.
One thing for sure is that this looks to be turning into a total railroad job versus a metal musician. One must ask themselves: “Would this sort of thing have transpired if it was Justin Bieber?”
“It’s a botched investigation,” said the band’s manager, Larry Mazer. “The police went through the motions and forgot about it until someone notified them the band was coming back to Prague.”
A lot of music news sites in America are trying to either put the blame on Randy or they simply are reporting skewed accounts of what really happened and are only helping the guy look more guilty, based off statements made by the victim’s friend who is convinced he saw the veteran singer literally ‘manhandle’ the concertgoer, leading to the incident that caused the tragic injury… though there is no video to support any of his claims.
The friend of the victim told The Prague Post. “He got up onstage only once, at the end of the concert. Randy was brutal, and pushed Dan down where nobody could catch him. I don’t think he meant to kill Dan. But I hope he will be punished.”
Why wasn’t any of this brought up to the band’s management after the show? If such a thing did occur, don’t you think the promoter would have told them something went down… IMMEDIATELY?
As the story goes, the victim went to a hospital hours later after the gig and then fell into a coma for nearly a month, ultimately passing away at the age of only 19.
The bottom line no evidence at all from the prosecution has been presented other than them saying
they have several witness accounts to support their claim of manslaughter against the singer. Blythe must wait now until next week to see if he will be bailed for real or it is likely he will be sitting in jail up to 6 months before the criminal trial begins.
With all the details on the case flying around the worldwide web, here is what we do know:
On May 24th, 2010, LAMB OF GOD took the stage in Prague, Abaton after opening act Rust 2 Dust.
By all accounts, witness and video, the show went off without a hitch, despite reports that Blythe himself was acting over aggressive toward stage divers throughout the performance.
The friend of the victim who claims to have witnessed the moment where Blythe allegedly harmed the fan, says that the long haired youth who looks identical to the pics of victim says that it is not his friend in the YouTube video where its seen a young man is clearly slammed in the head by the bass guitar when trying to jump onto the stage and then subsequently thrown off the stage onto his head by a security guard.
This friend of the victim is obviously going to be the star witness for the prosecution and is the main reason Blythe is still being held despite posting nearly $200,000 in bail.
It was reported July 5 that Czech police had tried in vain to seek cooperation from the FBI 18 months after the fatal incident.
However, the band’s manager said he found that hard to believe, since the gig’s organizer, Obscure Promotion, was first contacted by police three months after the show, and the band themselves were totally unaware of any incident until landing in Prague on June 27, which is when Randy Blythe was arrested and had his freedom taken away.
Jonathan Crane, a reporter with the Prague Post, said that a legal expert believes the defense team should have quite a strong case. “Even if Randy was responsible for the alleged attack, the expert said that who is to say that he wasn’t accidentally kicked or trodden on or left without help by fans below the stage,” said Crane.
The increasing outrage from Randy’s fans prompted the U.S. Embassy to release on Wednesday a very brief, non-committal statement regarding Blythe: “The U.S. Embassy provides standard consular services to American citizens in need of assistance. We cannot discuss specific cases due to privacy concerns.”

Only time will tell what really did happen but let’s not rush to judgement against one of our own until we know all the facts.
