Bay Area gruesome twosome BLACK COBRA have unleashed “Avalanche” — the opening track from their upcoming fourth full-length release, Invernal — along with the public’s first look at the album’s intense cover art.
Check out the frozen carnage at this location.
Set for release via Southern Lord Recordings on October 11th in North America — BLACK COBRA’s sophomore album for the label — the thunderous Invernal was recorded in eight days this past July at Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou’s God City Studio and mastered by John Golden (Neurosis, Melvins, Weedeater, countless more). The theme to the entire record is based on a post-apocalyptic trek to a nuclear infested and mutated Antarctica, inspired in part by the treks of English researcher Ernest Shackleton.
Invernal Track Listing:
1. Avalanche
2. Somnae Tenebrae
3. Corrosion Fields
4. The Crimson Blade
5. Beyond
6. Erebus Dawn
7. Abyss
8. Obliteration
In support of Invernal, BLACK COBRA’s rigorous touring season has begun as well. The band recently bombed those in attendance at the massive The Power Of The Riff festival in Los Angeles, immediately following that performance as direct support for High On Fire in Oakland. This week BLACK COBRA will be performing at the MusicFest Northwest festival in Portland, Oregon alongside Kylesa, Witch Mountain and more, followed immediately by a direct support slot for Kylesa in Seattle, Washington.
BLACK COBRA Live:
9/08/2011 Dante’s – Portland, OR @ MFNW [tickets]
9/09/2011 Highline – Seattle, WA w/ Kylesa
9/22/2011 Yerba Buena Center for the Arts – San Francisco, CA
BLACK COBRA tour actions will continually be announced through the rest of 2011 as this band hits the road hard once again. Promos of Invernal and interviews with the band will be available immediately as well.
