DIMEBAG – Awarded HIGH TIMES Lifetime Achievement Doobie


High Times celebrated the best in stoner music at the 9th Doobie Awards in Austin on Mar. 20. Comics Doug Benson and Rob Cantrell (below) provided the laughs, and Rex Brown and Rita Haney accepted Dimebag Darrell’s posthumous Lifetime Achievement Doobie (below with High Times’ Bobby Black). Pantera guitarist Dimebag (Darrell Abbott) was murdered on stage in 2004. Brown is the band’s bassist and Haney is Abbott’s widow.


Also in attendance at the Doobies, held at Emo’s on 6th St., were Asher Roth, DJ Babu and Rakaa from Dilated Peoples, and Austin City Council candidate Kris Bailey (below with Texas Teapot Party’s Dave Chastain). Bands on the bill included Smoker’s Club (featuring Curren$y and Smoke Dza), Chief Greenbud, the Contrabandits, Honky, Blower and Suplecs.

Best New/Underground Artist: The Contrabandits
Lifetime Achievement Award: Dimebag Darrell
