TMD reveals the original demo track of the song that would eventually become one of the most famous in heavy metal history: “Rust In Peace…. Polaris” – but the recording is not by legendary thrash act MEGADETH… nope, credit here goes to a little known band called CHILD SAINT.

As the story goes, Dave Mustaine wrote the majority of “Rust In Peace…. Polaris” while he was in PANIC, the group he was part of in 1981 shortly before joining METALLICA. He then reportedly gave the song away to an Orange County, California metal unit called CHILD SAINT, who never had the good fortune to ever get signed by a record label but did cut an official demo in 1988. It is said that Los Angeles radio station 105.5 KNAC at that time played the Child Saint version on the air. Did Dave hear this, get jealous that his old ‘throw away’ riffs were getting airplay and decide to finally take them back and cut his own original based off of them? Whatever the reason… all that matters is the great song was finally realized… and put onto a MEGADETH studio album.

One listen and you will be floored at not only the similarities… but the great historical aspect one gets from taking it all in. Yes, Child Saint’s “Child Saint” features the exact same riffs that would later be used on Megadeth’s all-time classic track… but in its own strange little way… has a life all of its very own. Listen to the extremely rare track HERE!
