Former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted has issued a statement, in concern with taking the site for Chophouse Recordings offline, which is the home of his personal recording studio in Walnut Creek, California:
“Chophouse is going off-line for awhile… Keep it Heavy…Keep it Metal
Cheerz,
Jason”
Not only has Jason recorded music at Chophouse with his other main music projects Echobrain and Voivod, but he had also formed a cool punk rock project called Papa Wheelie and recorded at Chophouse in 2002. A handful of those tracks have been uploaded on their MySpace page.
Newsted was quoted on his involvement with the punk band: “Our first gig was a neighborhood barbecue. It was all improvised. None of the music is prearranged. There are some skeletons of riffs and no set lyrics. It makes me able to enjoy playing, feeling the noise, with no agenda and no one from a record company breathing down our necks telling us what to do.”
Newsted has apparently recovered from 2006 shoulder injury that kept him sidelined and unable to tour with Voivod. He played on the act’s “Infini” album last year and is now listed as their “studio bassist” only.
On April 4, 2009 Newsted joined his former band mates in Metallica to be be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Newsted registered the Chophouse site on April 7, 2000 under the name JN Company and listed Travis Bickle as the admin and technical contact.
