VENOM’s founding vocalist/bassist Conrad “Cronos” Lant passed away yesterday on October 1st at the age of 63. For over four decades, the black metal group terrorized the world with its utterly evil sounding homage to the Devil himself.
King Rocket of TMD comments:
“Thanks for all the great music over the years, Cronos! Your presence and influence in heavy metal will be felt forever. I started listening to your band when I was only 12 in 1982, when going through my older brothers record collection one day I came across “Welcome to Hell” by VENOM and when I looked over the album and song titles I knew this was the real deal. More importantly, when I played it you definitely backed it all up and then some with your totally vicious sonic attack. You never faltered from your original vision and did not allow success and admiration of millions to change the way you presented yourself and VENOM band. You kept it utterly real until the very end. I respect that. Horns UP and ride off into the great void a champion. Hail Satan!”
