After weeks of mystery, Sharon Osbourne has revealed that she does intend to eventually name the band whom she removed from the bill for tomorrow’s ‘Back To The Beginning‘ live sendoff for BLACK SABBATH and her husband Ozzy Osbourne. In a new interview with Billboard, the Osbourne matriarch mentioned that she removed one band from the bill, after revealing they “wanted to make a profit” from the event. She stated, “it’s not the time to make a profit. After the show I’ll let everybody know who it was. I think people will be shocked.”
Proceeds from the farewell show have been earmarked to go towards Cure Parkinson’s, the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice. Sharon previously indicated in early June that she had booted a band from the bill, telling Metal Hammer:
“I had a huge, huge to-do with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy and Sabbath. And it was probably the worst way I’ve felt in years. And I don’t care what this person says about me, thinks about it, because he doesn’t know me. And he’s now going around making up bullshit lies because I threw his band off the bill.
I don’t care what people say. Because do you know what? I don’t love them. I care about people who love me, what they say about me. You can’t care what an industry says, because you don’t love them, so how can it hurt you? It doesn’t.”
Since then there’s been lingering speculation regarding who got cut. Tool were among the initial suspects, due to their name frequently disappearing from admats for the event, however, they have confirmed their participation.
Iron Maiden, who have previously run afoul of the Osbourne camp, were also brought up, but Sharon herself confirmed it wasn’t them in the above-mentioned interview with Metal Hammer. Since then speculation came about that Megadeth may have been group on the receiving end of the axe, but Sharon and Ozzy‘s daughter Kelly confirmed that wasn’t the case.
Wolfgang Van Halen has withdrawn from the event, but he has publicly attributed his absence to scheduling conflicts with his band Mammoth‘s summer touring with Creed and more.
With a who’s who of metal and hard rock talent including the likes of Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer and many more set to help send them off, Sabbath and Ozzy are set to bow out tomorrow, July 05th, at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK. That sold-out show will be livestreamed via backtothebeginning.com.
