PANTERA played the first concert of their latest cash grab tour in Fort Lauderdale, Florida last night on 02/03/24 and one fan commented that the band seemed “in sync” and “damn near perfect” as Zakk Wylde is busted using backing tape for the song “Suicide Note pt 2”, when it’s clear to see he is not using a Digitech Whammy pedal on the stage, which is required to play the song, when pitch shifting the notes to get the squealing effect Dimebag was so legendary for.
Wylde was caught last year doing the same thing on “Becoming” song, as was published on Alice Cooper’s former radio show site and dozens of other radio sites across the world. The replacement guitarist for the late great Dimebag Darrell has yet to release one single play along video to show he can actually play Pantera songs without using backing tape.
What Wylde is doing is called “finger syncing” which is the same as doing lip sync when singing but you are faking playing the guitar while prerecorded audio is played through the PA.
PANTERA fill-in drummer Charlie Benante went on the record last year to say that he doesn’t see anything wrong with enhancing their show by using backing tracks during their concerts.
It is also rumored that Benante is also using tape for the kick drums and is mostly clown miming himself too, just like Randy “Rocket” Cody of TMD busted MÖTLEY CRÜE fake drumming on The Stadium Tour, which is a common practice now at most rock concerts.
