There has been speculation that back in 1992 when MÖTLEY CRÜE fired Vince Neil from the lineup due to his issues with alcohol, lack of interest music, and a desire to become a race car driver, it was rumored that Christian rocker Ken Tamplin was considered as the former vocalist’s replacement, which Nikki Sixx recently revealed was not true.
Answering an X question about whether Tamplin was going to join Crüe in the ’90s, the bassist wrote:
“I don’t know who that singer is, so ‘No.’”
According to his Wikipedia page. Tamplin is a cousin to former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar.
Hagar said of Tamplin in an interview: “I’ve only met him once. But you know, he sends me his records and all that stuff.”
Despite this rumor about a Christian rocker was going to sing for the world’s most dangerous band, we all know that instead of Tamplin, John Corabi stepped in for Vince Neil.
With Corabi, Mötley Crüe released their 1994 self-titled album, but reports suggested that Ken Tamplin also played on some unreleased tracks from ‘Generation Swine.’
When the person who asked the previous question also wanted to find out whether these alleged recordings would ‘see the light of day,’ Sixx explained:
“And there are no (other) songs recorded during that era. Everything we’ve recorded has been released unless unfinished demos from many eras.”
Tamplin is an accomplished rock music performer in his own right, who has gained a legion of followers online for his Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy, where he teaches people how to sing properly.
Believe it or not, Tamplin was at one time in a band with Ex-MEGDADETH guitarist Marty Friedman called SHOUT.
