On August 4th, the tribute lineup of PANTERA played on the bill with METALLICA at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and the wheels came off the cash grab train once and for all when PANTERA singer Phil Anselmo was busted by a YouTube viewer online going by the handle of Sid Randall.
“Why is Phil Anselmo lip syncing? I know he is almost as fat now as Vince Meal, but this is clearly a man who can be heard with a deep smoker’s voice today, yet the vocals heard out of the PA sound youthful and higher pitched exactly like he did on the studio album from the nineties! What a goddamn fake ass P.O.S.!!!”
Fans will recall the same YouTube viewer busted PANTERA fill-in guitarist Zakk Wylde back in May clown miming on his guitar along to backing tapes while playing the song “Becoming”.
Miming in instrumental performance or finger-synching is the act of musicians pretending to play their instruments in a live show.
In the case of Anselmo, he is basically singing on top of the piped in backing tape to make it appear authentic, like you would with Karaoke at a bar. This is why he needs to wear in ear monitors during the performance, so he does not screw up the deception. Check out the shocking video footage below.
The worst part of all of this is Anselmo is making a mockery out of the Abbott brother’s legacy, instead of honoring the two deceased founders of PANTERA. The skin head singer openly admitted in a 2015 interview conducted by TMD that a reunion of PANTERA “would be good money” despite saying in 2009 that “There could be no reunion with Dimebag.” Anselmo went on to embarrass Dime’s memory by flashing the Nazi salute at Dimebash 2016 and yelling “White Power!”
In March of 2020, guitarist Zach Myers of SHINEDOWN band said that “90 percent” of rock artists use at least some pre-recorded tracks during their live performances. He told Rock Feed: “It bothers me that it bothers people. I’m, like, ‘Why does this bother you?’ It’s the way it is. People have been doing this since the ’80s. And we want the sound to be the best it can be. Could we go up there, just the four of us, and put on the best rock show ever? Of course. But that’s not how we wanna do it.”
In a 2014 interview, MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars admitted that he wasn’t comfortable with the fact that his band used pre-recorded backing vocals in its live shows, claiming that he preferred to watch groups whose performances are delivered entirely live. “I don’t like it,” he said.
Mars has now filed a lawsuit against his old bandmates who purportedly ousted the 72 year old guitar icon for being “too old” and losing “cognitive ability” to play his guitar due to his senior age. Mars is claiming that the Crue’s bassist Nikki Sixx did not play one note live on The Stadium Tour, and drummer Tommy Lee was also caught faking it by TMD’s Randy “Rocket” Cody last year, along with rotund vocalist Vince Neil being busted on multiple occasions this year and last lip syncing due to his real singing voice being dead and gone, like his once trim physique.
Other bands that have been busted with their singers doing the Milli Vanilli act are retiring rock Gods KISS, plus other well-known groups like the reformed STATIC-X.
