PHILIP H. ANSELMO Discusses Possibility of PANTERA Reunion: “Vince Has Got A Grudge Against Me That Is Really Unfounded”

TMD

Legendary PANTERA/DOWN/SUPERJOINT RITUAL vocalist Philip H. Anselmo discusses a range of topics in a brand new interview with the Village Voice. Here are a few excerpts from the discussion:

Q: In metal, vocals range from singing to screaming. How do you think your own style has evolved over the course of your career?

A: With Pantera, there was, in my very young mind, this big yearning to cross what I was enjoying about hardcore and thrash metal and speed metal at the time, where melody kind of went out the window, but still there was a power there. With Down, this is the type of band where, 99-percent of the time, I have to be in key when I’m singing. So, I can’t really rely on a bunch of screaming, but when I do it…I’m kind of thinking a little bit of James Brown...

FINSTERFORST – Sign With NAPALM RECORDS

TMD

FINSTERFORST, the nature-loving warriors hailing from the German Black Forest, are set to release their fourth album, Rastlos (“Restless”), via Napalm Records, offering the listener their definite masterpiece to date.

The five mighty and overlong songs present themselves as a sweeping diversity of melodies and moods. Finsterforst combine melancholic folklore, untamed black metal fury with majestic soundscapes, thus giving the songs a hypnotic dynamic. This particular effect is strengthened by the sophisticated and fitting use of authentic instruments like the accordion or a full horn section. The great vocal work add to this result and range from grim vocals to proud choirs.

All these ingredients make Rastlos an intensive adventure, just like wandering through the enthralled and mystic...

DECREPIT BIRTH – Robbed On Road, Drop Off Tour

TMD
TMD

DECREPIT BIRTH were robbed while on tour in San Francisco, CA last night and will be dropping off their immediate dates as a result. The band issued the following statement on that:

“IMPORTANT: More bad energy has come to us in the form of a theft last night night in San Francisco. Our rental van had the side window broken out and all of our personal bags with cash, laptop computers, cell phones, passports, and id’s were stolen.

This was a major blow to go along with our van catching on fire in Canada and having to leave it there to be junked. At this point we will have to regretfully drop from the last few days of tour. The costs are overwhelming at this point, and to continue on would dig an even deeper hole of debt for the band, which we can’t afford.

We had a grea...

METALLICA – Rare Live ’85 Cliff Burton Bass Solo (Audio)

TMD

The Metal Den has obtained rare concert audio of late great METALLICA bassist Cliff Burton performing the classic “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth” bass solo on January 15, 1985 at The Spectrum in Montreal, Quebec.

Today marks the 26th anniversary of Cliff’s tragic death back on September 27, 1986. He was killed in a bus crash in Ljungby, Sweden while on tour. He was only 24 years old.

On this bootleg recording the listener is treated to a blistering bass lead that has still yet to be equaled in rock music. There is no doubt that Young Cliff was decades ahead of his time in style, chops and attitude.

Widely considered the greatest heavy metal bassist ever, Cliff’s playing was nothing short of genius...

DOOMSDAY – Debut Album Details

TMD

Chicago-based mob DOOMSDAY have completed their debut album and plan to disburse the filth to the public on the band’s own label this Fall, in conjunction with a throng of tour dates across the Midwest and Eastern U.S.

DOOMSDAY’s obviously apocalyptic vision has been several years in the making conceptually. An idea birthed between guitarist Jeff Wilson (Wolvhammer, Chrome Waves, ex-Nachtmystium), guitarist/vocalist Jon Necromancer (Bones, ex-Usurper, ex-Nachtmystium) and drummer Zack Simmons (Goatwhore, ex-Nachtmystium), the trio recruited vocalist Zion Meagher (Anti-Human Thesis, ex-Forest Of Impaled, ex-Nachtmystium) and bassist Bob Fouts (The Gates of Slumber, Chrome Waves, Apostle Of Solitude) to round out the lineup.

After months of writing and planning, their individual sc...
