AVENGED SEVENFOLD – Drummer Found Dead

James Owen Sullivan aka “The Rev”, drummer and backup vocalist for the Southern California metalcore band AVENGED SEVENFOLD, has been found dead at his home in Southern California.

Police say the 28-year-old Sullivan appears to have died of natural causes on Monday in Huntington Beach.

The Orange County coroner’s office is investigating the death.

Avenged Sevenfold formed in Huntington Beach in 1999 and won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006. According to their MySpace page, the five-man metalcore band was working on their fifth album.

The band issued this statement on their site expressing their sadness:

DEAD SHAPE FIGURE – Complete Recording

Finnish modern thrash/death-influenced metallers DEAD SHAPE FIGURE has finished recording the drums and guitars at D-Studio in Nurmijärvi, Finland for its second album, “The Disease Of St. Vitus”, for a spring 2010 release via Dynamic Arts Records. The group says, “We are gonna record the bass next week and the vocals will be recorded during the first week of the year 2010.”

DEAD SHAPE FIGURE’s debut album, “The Grand Karoshi”, was released in 2008 via Season Of Mist. The CD’s lyrical content was recently translated by Kallio into Finnish as a book of poetry, entitled “Loppusäkeet”.

American Deathcore veterans WHITECHAPEL entered the studio yesterday to start work on their third full-length and second for Metal Blade. Guitarist Alex Wade commented, “Dusty Peterson has been signed on to handle the artwork duties. His dark, yet meticulously detailed style of hand drawn artwork is sure to bring out a truly vivid and brutal masterpiece. Swedish black metal outfit Valkyrja have uploaded the first new track from their forthcoming album ‘Contamination’, which is due January 18 through Metal Blade, to their myspace page. The band said of their new album, “The two years which have passed since the ‘The Invocation Of Demise’ session have been a hectic period of composing, crafting and some line-up changes. During this last summer Valkyrja manifested the second album. There were no doubts that we would return to Necromorbus Studio, again with Tore Stjerna as producer, and the outcome of this session formed an abominable weapon.

Little Rock, Arkansas (USA) metal outfit SOUL EMBRACED has announced the addition of guitar player Ed Collins. The group had the following to say:

“Ed is an amazing guitarist and we have begun collaborating on a ton of new songs for the new SE record. Ed has helped give us the new and improved sound we’ve been looking for and we can’t wait for you to hear what we’re working on.”

Collins replaces Devin Castle, who left the group in May.
