Dear Phil,
I wanted to take a few moments to articulate just how much damage you have done to your music career over the past 13 months due to saying two words: “WHITE POWER”. I know you don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but I am hear to tell you now that, Phil, your career in metal music is pretty much relegated these days to the underground only, because – straight up – nobody in the mainstream wants to touch you, dude. Initially, you declined to make an apology for the racist actions on the stage, remember? But then you backtracked when you knew you had no choice. At first, you seemed to get it… you apologized profusely… said you love everyone… but now in new interviews you are copping an attitude like it was not such a big deal. Everyone is out to get you. What “The Kid” needs to realize is that there are a lot of people – like me, who have done nothing but support you after Dimebag got shot to death on the stage and everyone blamed you, for that magazine interview you did where amidst the ongoing Pantera feud you said, “Dime needs to be beaten severely.”
Many, including Dime’s brother Vinnie Paul, feel that your negative, destructive actions helped inspire the shooting spree at the Alrosa Villa club on December 8, 2004. Keep in mind, Dime wasn’t the only one killed that night, Phil. Three other brave men trying to save the life of your ex-guitar player were shot dead right next to him on the stage while innocent fans in the audience watched in pure horror.
Now flash forward to the interview I conducted with you in July/2015 and I ask you a question about your opinion of the ‘Confederate Flag’ debate in America. Seems pretty straight forward, right? I mean, Pantera only plastered that flag design all over your shirts and memorabilia for years, correct? But then you seem hesitant, and I offer you the out and say, “You don’t have to answer it if you don’t want.” But you did, and I thought you did a great job of denouncing racism, and explaining your side of things. Sure, after the interview posted a lot of premiere sites picked it up and the next thing I know Pantera is announcing on Twitter that they are pulling “Confederate” branded items from the band’s online store.
I didn’t think much of it. And then in Decemeber/2015 at the Dimebash event, which is supposed to be about who? It’s a celebration for your late guitarist Darrell Abbott, remember him? Oh, sure you do… that’s why at the end of the tribute concert you took it upon yourself to make it all about you, and for whatever reason, you blurted out “White Power” and did the Nazi salute. Why? You go on to say that hecklers in the audience calling you ‘racist’ all night made you so darn mad that you just needed to show them who is the boss.
What you fail to see after the smoke has cleared from your explosive, hurtful behavior, is that you have damaged the reputation of not only all metal music musicians, and the fans who follow this kind of music, who already have a hard enough time being accepted in a world that does not want these kind of ‘devil’ tunes around any longer, but you have additionally further tainted the incredible legacy of Pantera. But that doesn’t bother you, huh? You’re so busy being Phil Anselmo and shoving one crappy project to the next through your own label Housecore Records, most notably this stupid Phil & Bill Moseley album you are pushing to your fans where you don’t even really sing on the album. You should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. The last person I saw doing a ‘cash grab’ in life was you, dude.
And then in Dec/2016, one year later from Dimebash, I interview your drummer, Joey Gonzalez, who takes special time out in the interview to tell me that he thinks “People should not ask non-related music questions.” It didn’t really hit me that this little punk twenty six year old was referring to me, although he did not have the balls to direct it at me at that time. It took me a month, and listening to the audio of the interview again the other day to see that he definitely was talking about me, and specifically the “Confederate flag” question I had asked Phil before. Maybe I should have known there was problems when I was denied a new interview with Phil. I was sent Jimmy Bower and this new young hotshot drummer they hired who also plays with Bruce Corbitt’s Warbeast. Then next, Liz at Earsplit PR, who set the whole thing up instructed me in plain black and white to “Stick with asking Superjoint related questions only”. What is this the communist government all of the sudden?
Then when I confront Joey Gonzalez via email about the slight last night, here’s the response I got:
“Yea so what’s wrong with that? If you felt offended go FUCK YOURSELF. Come talk to me with some real shit. If you felt like I dug at you that’s your problem.” – Jose M. Gonzalez Jr.
Real shit? It does not get more real in life when someone you never met before tells you to go fuck yourself. But that is the day and age we live in. Everyone is an attack dog from behind the computer keyboard. Why the need to be such a bitter hateful dick to someone who has done nothing but help promote your music over the years? You see I was actually into Superjoint Ritual before this little punk was even old enough to jack off yet. But he’s gonna tell me how things go, and he wants me to come at him with some ‘real shit’. Okay… get ready for some real shit!
I am notifying everyone in the metal music industry and all its fans globally, that today that Mr. Anselmo, his bands Superjoint, Down, Phil & The Illegals, Scour, Phil and the Partridge family, Housecore Records and Earsplit PR are now under a lifetime ban at my site THE METAL DEN. In the end, you are your own worst enemy in this life, Philip H. Anselmo, not the media, not ME for asking a non-music related question, got it? Now you made your bed in this life, it’s time for you to sleep in it!
How is that for “real shit”, Joey?
Sincerely,
Randy “Rocket” Cody
