Den Headz, in all this chaotic excitement over David Ellefson returning to MEGADETH for the RIP tour, we have overlooked two other important musicians from that great Rust In Peace era: drummer Nick Menza and guitarist Marty Friedman. Yes, they are both still alive and both still play music.
On the Megadeth forums recently, a fan poses the question:
If 1 Former Member Of Megadeth Returned For 1 Day
Who would it be and on what song?
“Marty for TOS and Lucretia” one fan writes. Another types: “Nick Menza – Reckoning Day (from Youthanasia)”. One fan wants them both: “Menza – Black Friday and IMDH
Marty Friedman – Hangar 18”. The most compelling answer, however, is: “Menza playing anything RIP”
If Dave Mustaine really is all about honoring his fans maybe he should get serious about
delivering what they want. Menza may not be able to play double bass as well as he once did, but the man is not unable to sit behind the drum kit for one song today. He’s a very good guy and should be recognized for his part in one of metal’s finest hours.
Friedman is now an incredible musical force and celebrity in Japan, having shed his Megadeth years for good in 2000… but let’s not forget that during his time in the band, Megadeth sold over ten million albums worldwide.
It’s not too much to ask for one song for each Nick and Marty, is it?
Let us not forget it was Nick Menza who came up with the idea for Hangar 18.
If you listen closely you can already hear the chants: “Rust In Peace, Rust In Peace, Rust In Peace”.
