Moscow-based death metal sect KATALEPSY unveils the new play-through video for “To The Lords Of Nihil.” The tune comes by way of the band’s mauling Gravenous Hour full-length, released in May via Unique Leader Records.
Continuing to reap praise from fans and critics globally, in an 8.5/10 score, The Metal Observer concludes, “Gravenous Hour exists at the apogee of modern brutal death with its showcase of indefatigable groove, pace, and creativity. KATALEPSY have delivered a pummeling new record that maintains Russia’s stranglehold on over-the-top extremity.” No Clean Singing issues, “If Gravenous Hour is any sign of what is going on in modern death metal circles, there is certainly a reason to dive deeper into those turgid waters. While old-school death and Swedish death metal continue to reign ascendant, this younger generation of bands is certainly vying for the opportunity to take their place in extreme metal’s pantheon.” Dead Rhetoric concurs, “Genre fans are sure to get a thrill out of Gravenous Hour. There’s a fresh energy and chaos level that KATALEPSY delivers with flair… This is burly, dynamic, and surprisingly memorable death metal.” In a 4/5 review, Heavy Blog Is Heavy concurs, “the determination and hard work of this group is fucking stupendous. Not known for pulling punches or leaving the difficult stuff for special occasions, Gravenous Hour shows these musicians at their devastating best. Somewhere deep in the cacophony of tar-lunged vocals and whiplash-friendly drumming lives a guitar and bass attack so pleasing, KATALEPSY should be charging for the privilege.” Adds Teeth Of The Divine, “The Gravenous Hour is a brutal, perfect masterpiece that should be revered for years to come. And in a year that has seen Unique Leader Records and tech/brutal death metal deliver some stunning releases, this and First Fragment’s Dasein are is the genre’s crowning achievements in 2016 and possibly beyond.”
