PANTERA<\/strong>‘s blatantly disrespectful ‘cash grab’ tour has started to face serious blowback, with a festival appearance in Germany<\/a> being cancelled, as well as a scheduled gig in Austria this spring following an outcry over singer Philip Anselmo<\/strong>‘s previous racist remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reformed group \u2014 featuring PANTERA<\/strong>‘s surviving members Anselmo<\/strong> and Rex Brown<\/strong> (bass) along with guitarist Zakk Wylde<\/strong> (OZZY OSBOURNE<\/strong>, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY<\/strong>) and drummer Charlie Benante<\/strong> (ANTHRAX<\/strong>) \u2014 was scheduled to appear at Gasometer in Vienna on May 31 as part of its spring\/summer 2023 European tour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, January 25, promoters Barracuda Music<\/a> and Mind Over Matter Music<\/strong> released a statement on social media<\/a> saying that the show was scrapped. “All tickets can be returned where they were purchased,” the promoters wrote. “Thank you for your understanding.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phil Anselmo as fans will recall back at Dimebash 2016, which was meant to be a show to honor slain PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell faced backlash once Anselmo used a Nazi salute and yelled “White Power” to the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a shocking 2015 interview <\/a>with legendary rock journalist Randy “Rocket” Cody<\/strong>, Anselmo tried to defend his usage of the now banned Confederate flag during past Pantera gigs, “I didn’t create the damn thing.” He also went on the record to state that a PANTERA reunion “Would be good money!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
