\nJoel Osteen, American best-selling author and the senior pastor of Lakewood church in Houston, Texas, the largest church congregation in the United States, averaging more than 43,000 in attendance per week, spoke during his weekly televised broadcast today about not having a \u201ccritical spirit\u201d and the negative impact it can ultimately have on peoples lives.

\nHe went on to discuss during the sermon how that he too found that \u2018way of thinking\u2019 challenged directly in his own life, when after a recent sermon, a man and his wife, both covered in tattoos and piercings all over their arms and faces, approached the famed minister. His natural reaction – like most people – was to be critical and judge why they looked so unusual, but he instead decided to not be \u201ccritical\u201d and pass unfair judgment of who they were, opting to take the \u201chigher road\u201d and welcome the two with a friendly smile and handshake, just as he normally does with any person – no matter their appearance or background.

\nThe man proceeded to hand Osteen a music CD and explained that he performs in a Heavy Metal band and that this was the very first time he had ever stepped into a church to worship God in his life. Osteen explained further that the man even pointed out that one of the songs on the CD was written about Joel Osteen himself.
