A November 20th release date on Season Of Mist<\/strong> has been announced for TOMBS’<\/strong> new studio album \u201cUnder Sullen Skies<\/strong>\u201c. The group recorded the effort at Fright Box Studios<\/strong> in Clifton, NJ with Bobby Torres<\/strong> taking on the production, etc. duties. Speaking of the album\u2019s title, the band\u2019s frontman\/guitarist, etc. Mike Hill<\/strong> commented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe album\u2019s title came during all this and the sort of post-apocalyptic world we\u2019re living in. It encapsulates an overall feeling of gloom and depression which is pretty much how we\u2019ve been living for most of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The title was the last piece to fall into place. I remember standing on the roof of the building I was living in at the time on a grey day and it was raining \u2013 actually, it wasn\u2019t even raining; it was a half-assed attempt at rain! \u2013 and depressing and I just thought, \u2018What a sullen sky\u2019 and it just stuck with me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song \u201cBarren<\/strong>\u201d has been launched as the first single from the outing and it features a guest spot from Six Feet Under<\/strong> guitarist Ray Suhy<\/strong>. You can stream it below, while Hill<\/strong> had the following to say about it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Barren<\/strong>\u2018 stands out as the song that\u2019s most collaborative. Justin<\/strong> wrote the bulk of the riffs on that one, that sort of NWOBHM\/Scorpions<\/strong> ending part is something I came up with, Matt<\/strong> added a bunch of guitar harmonies over it and Drew<\/strong>\u2019s bass is laid thick underneath. That one is one of the biggest group efforts and one of the strongest songs on the record.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suhy<\/strong> is but one of the numerous guests featured on the record, as Hill<\/strong> explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s Cat Cabral<\/strong>, who does the spoken word piece on \u2018Angel of Darkness<\/strong>.\u2019 She\u2019s not a musician per se; she\u2019s more from the occult and witchcraft world. I\u2019ve been friends with her for a really long time and she\u2019s a great resource for esoteric knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s also an actress who has done plays and commercials and been in films, so I figured she\u2019d be the perfect person to deliver dialogue in an emotionally deep way, and be good at taking direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ray Suhy<\/strong> from Six Feet Under<\/strong> rips the guitar solo in \u2018Barren\u2019 and that solo is its own masterpiece, in my opinion. Black Crown Initiate<\/strong> and former Tombs<\/strong> live guitarist Andy Thomas<\/strong> contributed a guitar solo in \u2018Void Constellation<\/strong>.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Todd Stern<\/strong> from Psycroptic<\/strong> plays the solo in \u2018Mortem<\/strong>.\u2019 Sera Timms<\/strong> from Ides Of Gemini<\/strong> and Black Math Horseman<\/strong> does guest vocals on \u2018Secrets Of The Black Sun<\/strong>.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve got Integrity<\/strong>\u2019s Dwid Hellion<\/strong> singing the chorus on \u2018The Hunger<\/strong>\u2019 and Black Anvil<\/strong>\u2019s Paul Delaney<\/strong> also doing a couple of verses on \u2018Angel Of Darkness<\/strong>.\u2019 So, yeah, there are a bunch of people on there and it\u2019s like a community effort which I enjoy. I like involving people I respect and having them be a part of the whole thing.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
