\nThis past spring we learned that Bret Hoffmann, original vocalist and co-founder of death metal band MALEVOLENT CREATION, was battling stage 4 colon cancer. Sadly, Hoffmann has passed away. He was 51 years old.<\/p>\n
The news comes via Hoffmann’s wife, Kimberly:<\/p>\n
“Can’t believe my best friend\/brother has passed away! 40 years of friendship and 30 years of playing music together. There will never be ever anyone I loved more than Bret Hoffmann and writing music and traveling the world with. He was truly the best friend I ever had and will miss him deeply. R.I.P. my brother!”<\/p>\n
Hoffmann served three separate stints in Malevolent Creation, last performing with the band in 2016. Most recently, Hoffmann fronted Fire for Effect. \nMALEVOLENT CREATION started their career in 1987 in Buffalo, NY, where they recorded and distributed their first demo. Moving to a more fertile music scene in Florida they produced their second demo with a pressing of 1,000 copies. Finally, a third demo the following year recorded by Scott Burns at Morris Sound which landed MALEVOLENT CREATION a record deal with Roadrunner and the first full-length album titled The Ten Commandments, considered by many to be one of the strongest Death Metal debut albums.
