\nFrank Mullen, vocalist and co-founder of death metal act SUFFOCATION, announced his retirement from full-time touring in 2012, but has appeared on the group’s two subsequent albums and has still performed with them occasionally. That arrangement looks to be coming to an end, however, as Mullen will be exiting Suffocation for good later this year after one final tour.<\/p>\n
Mullen said: “I will be doing one last tour later this year. I will let you all know once the details are finalized.”<\/p>\n
In a video posted to Mullen’s official Facebook page over the past weekend (see HERE<\/a>), Mullen acknowledged his departure, adding “but there are new beginnings,” before going on to say that he is going to be a “full-time actor.” \u201cThere\u2019s a reason we don\u2019t put out records every two years now,\u201d asserts long-time Suffocation guitarist and primary songwriter Terrance Hobbs. \u201cFor one, we don\u2019t need to. Two, we tour more now than we did in the early days. And three, we\u2019re no longer in our twenties. We all have lives and families now. Plus, I enjoy writing things and letting them organically mature. \nA good four years separate rager Pinnacle of Bedlam from new killer Of the Dark Light. But it wasn\u2019t always like this. Back in the \u201890s, Suffocation maniacs waited, at most, two years between old and new fixes of New York-styled brutality. Landmark full-length Effigy of the Forgotten was only two years removed from debut EP, Human Waste. Likewise, Breeding the Spawn slayed posers and pretenders a year and a half after Effigy of the Forgotten blueprinted Suffocation into the history books. And Pierced from Within, the wickedest death metal put to tape in the mid-\u201890s, slammed fist first into mediocrity and mundanity two years after Breeding the Spawn. Clearly, there were times when Suffocation\u2019s march towards total annihilation was fast and furious.<\/p>\n
