\nBORN OF OSIRIS is gearing up to release new album “Soul Sphere” via Sumerian Records on October 23, 2015.<\/p>\n
Many religions, cultures, and stories attribute power to the number three. In Egyptian mythology, it symbolizes plurality, and triads of deities comprise a complete system. It\u2019s no surprise that the god Osiris was born to one such triad alongside siblings Horus and Isis. It\u2019s also not a coincidence that Chicago heavy metal quintet Born Of Osiris found a similar significance within that number on new full-length album, “Soul Sphere.” In fact, over the course of 12 tracks, the record examines three tiers originally uncovered in a dream that Joe Buras [clean vocals, synthesizers, keyboards] shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole story of the record involves three levels,\u201d explains Joe. \u201cThe first one is The Binding. You\u2019re hanging, and you\u2019re stagnant. The second is The Fight. You were hanging, but now you\u2019re pulling away from this linchpin, whether it\u2019s physical, emotional, or spiritual. The final is The Release. You break away and feel free, connected, and loved.\u201d<\/p>\n
In order to properly explore the \u201ctiers,\u201d the group \u2014 Joe, Ronnie Canizaro [vocals], Cameron Losch [drums], David Da Rocha [bass], and Lee McKinney [guitar] \u2014 strengthened their bond exponentially. \u201cOver the years, you get better at creating, writing, and recording in the studio,\u201d says Ronnie. \u201cYou improve each time you make an album. Once we had the direction, it started gelling.\u201d<\/p>\n
Born Of Osiris preceded the album with the fiery chant of \u201cThrow Me In The Jungle,\u201d showcasing the band’s anthemic side. The follow-up \u201cResilience\u201d evinced another angle. Its gnashing polyrhythmic guitars collide with orchestral electronics and a forceful and fiery refrain, tapping into the band\u2019s hallmarks while fortifying the attack.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wanted to use that title for so long,\u201d Joe goes on. \u201cCollectively, we\u2019ve had so much resilience, going through different friendships and changes over the years but still maintaining our connection amongst us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then there\u2019s \u201cIlluminate,\u201d which tempers a wall of distortion with a big chorus. The third single \u201cGoddess of the Dawn\u201d snaps from a thick groove punctuated by pinch harmonics before an entrancing clean hook.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe talk about feeling lost, finding yourself, and opening up to love,\u201d says Joe. \u201cIt\u2019s all three tiers in one song. As far as the title goes, the Native Americans referred to Aurora Borealis as \u2018Goddess of the Dawn\u2019 before they knew what it was. Many cultures and religions would actually worship it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis group is five best friends together,\u201d adds Ronnie. \u201cWe\u2019re all different, and that makes something cool. Not every band has the closeness we do. We\u2019ve all known each other since high school.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope people feel creative and want to make their own art after hearing this,\u201d Joe leaves off. \u201cIt might get them off their couches and off their phones to really dive into something and challenge themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
