\nBirmingham, England may create a BLACK SABBATH Day to highlight the legendary rock band’s contribution to music.

\nThe heavy metal group formed in Aston in 1969 \u2013 and have reunited for a new album and tour which starts later this year and takes in a headline slot at the Download rock festival at Donington Park, Leicestershire.<\/p>\n
Now their unique place in the city\u2019s musical history could be celebrated with a day devoted to the band, if council officials follow the recommendation of a new report which urged the city to cash in on the renewed interest in the band.<\/p>\n
The Destination Birmingham document said: \u201cBlack Sabbath\u2019s reunion and their agreement to headline Download Festival in June is an opportunity we should not miss.<\/p>\n
\u201cEarly discussions are taking place about how best the city should celebrate this and the council should be supporting any celebrations.\u201d

\nThe four-piece revealed last week they were planning to finish writing their new album back in Birmingham, while guitarist Tony Iommi is also battling cancer.<\/p>\n
Coun Philip Parkin (Con, Sutton Trinity), the report\u2019s author, said celebrating the Sabbath reunion would not only celebrate Birmingham\u2019s musical heritage but also inspire emerging bands.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe report is saying that Black Sabbath reforming is significant, Black Sabbath are huge and metal is huge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven this, it is us saying to the council that we need to celebrate the fact these people come from Birmingham and there could be various ways we could do it.<\/p>\n
