\nDen Headz, today the City of West Hollywood declares August 18, 2011 M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce Day, and honor the originaly partying hair metal band as the 2011 recipients of the “Elmer Valentine Award” for their contributions to the history of The Sunset Strip.

\nThe award ceremony at the House of Blues will kick off the fourth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival that will go on for three days, through Saturday, August 20, 2011.
\n
\n“So many of us native Angelenos consider M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce to be our ‘home boys,'” says West Hollywood Mayor John Duran. “It will be an honor to recognize the ‘Saints of Los Angeles’ in our hometown and thank them for the incredible contribution they made to hard rock, glam and Southern California music,” Duran adds.

\nM\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce got their start on The Sunset Strip performing at the Whisky A Go-Go and The Roxy Theatre. They filmed the “Kickstart My Heart” video at the Whisky and shacked up on Clark Street for a while.

\nIt’s the fourth year that the Sunset Strip Music Festival has honored icons of the 1.9 mile stretch–in 2008, Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine, founders of The Roxy Theatre, Rainbow Bar & Grill and Whisky A Go-Go, were recognized. In 2009, Ozzy Osbourne received the “Elmer Valentine Award,” which was named after the original honoree Valentine. Last year, Slash got the award.
\nThis year’s festival will have live performances at the House of Blues, Key Club, The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room and Whisky A Go-Go. Performances on outdoor stages will top off the event with performances by M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce, Bush, Public Enemy, Matt & Kim, Escape The Fate, The Dirty Heads, Cobra Starship, She Wants Revenge, Black Veil Brides, Tribal Seeds and more.
