\nHeavy metal took over the American Idol stage tonight when legendary guitarist Zakk Wylde jammed a cover of the tune “Heavy Metal” by Sammy Hagar with idol contestant, vocalist James Durbin.

\n“That felt really, really real!” said judge Jennifer Lopez. “We can have a heavy metal Idol! Whatever! It’s America’s choice!”
\n
\n“This is unbelievable!” said Randy. “I’m happy you stuck to your guns! … Durbin rocks!”
\n
\nZakk Wylde told host Ryan Seacrest his impression of Durbin, “He sang his ass off, man.”
\n
\nNot a bad gig for Wylde, who has gone through his personal share of life problems over the past couple years, including losing his job in Ozzy Osbourne’s band and getting life threatening bloodclots. The big fella is also reportedly sober now for the longest period in his rock career… so all in all, this is a pretty big night for the metal community and our blonde Viking-like guitar God… who just will not stop rocking the world<\/em>.
