\nNew Jersey (USA) metal act SEDNA have begin to make a name for themselves in the rough and tumble world of underground metal. They are now ready to take it worldwide, showing great determination in a very competitive \u201cunsigned\u201d scene.
\n
\nThe Metal Den\u2019s Randy \u201cRocket\u201d Cody recently conducted an interview with SEDNA for his loyal army of Den Headz worldwide.<\/strong>

\nRocket: How did Sedna initially form together as a band?
\n
\nMark: Josh and I, knowing each other previously for many years but never
\nworking on a project together, shared a common problem. We both were just
\nfed up with the lack of dedication and unwillingness to do whatever it
\ntook to take a band to the next level and beyond. We also both knew we
\nwanted something more and were willing to go after it at any cost and
\nsacrifice everything to make it happen, Now, six years down the road, we
\nfeel all the pieces are in place, we are one cohesive unit, and we’re ready for that next level.
\n
\nRocket: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
\n

\nHurley: Phil Collins has always been a major influence of mine. Overall
\nI listen to and have so many different things, but as far as today goes
\nI have to say Jon Rice from Job impresses me quite a bit.
\n
\nPat: I have always been heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin and Pink
\nFloyd. My current favorite would most definitely be Tool.
\n
\nJay: I was greatly influenced early by Slayer and Sepultura, evolving
\ninto more of the heavier death metal such as Cannibal Corpse and more
\nrecently the more technical bands like Behemoth, Nile and Opeth.
\n
\nMark: Since the day I heard Lynyrd Skynyrd I became obsessed with music
\nand Thin Lizzy made me instantly realize I wanted nothing more than to
\nbe a musician.
\n
\nJosh: Growing up, on chore days my dad and I would be listening to
\nBlack Sabbath and some earlier classic metal and hard rock such as
\nMolly Hatchet and Blue Cheer, and then I grabbed a copy of Among The
\nLiving from Anthrax and then it really just progressed throughout the
\nyears with many different bands and genres.
\n
\nRocket: You guys are getting ready to release your recording debut. What is
\nthe title and when is it going to be released exactly?
\n
\n

\nMark – The name of the album is Divination and we chose a release date
\nof February 2, 2010.
\n
\nRocket: How many songs?
\n
\nMark: We decided on six songs. We felt it was a real good number of tracks for
\na debut album, just enough to define ourselves to everyone listening to
\nus and just enough to keep people wanting more.
\n
\nRocket: Where can fans pickup a copy?
\n
\nMark: Divination will be available on iTunes, amazon.com, CD Baby, Zune and most
\nother digital market places and, of course, at every Sedna show.
\n
\nRocket: Tell us a little more about the album.
\n
\n

\nMark: The album was recorded at Entrolab Studios in Toms River, NJ and
\nproduced by our good friend and business partner Jeff Wallace. We
\nreally set out to create a definitive recording that would firmly
\nestablish what Sedna is and what we ultimately are out to become.
\n
\nRocket: Cool. Who are some of the record labels that you guys respect out there?
\n
\nMark: There are so many labels, but just to name a few, Century Media, Metal
\nBlade, Nuclear Blast, Earache. Really anything that keeps signing and
\nsupporting metal has our respect.
\n
\nRocket: I like to have fun with this next one. What\u2019s the most embarrassing
\nthing that\u2019s ever happened to you while performing on the stage?
\n
\n

\nJay: One of our first shows with Hurley in Philadelphia, not halfway
\nthrough the first song, falling backward and knocking over half the
\ndrum set. Yeah, that was pretty embarrassing.
\n
\nPat: After playing Waretown NJ in the middle of summer I had sweat so much
\nand looked like I pissed myself without realizing it and I started hitting on some
\ngirls and was confused by the looks of disgust I received.
\n
\nMark: We were playing with Darkest Hour, and doing what I do (going
\nfucking crazy) I went to throw my guitar over my head. The guitar and
\nmy hand went through a stage light. There was blood everywhere. As
\nmetal as it looked, midway through the set I started to feel just a
\nlittle woosey.
\n
\nHurley: Just a bunch of broken drumsticks at inopportune times, but I’m
\nsure I’m in for it sooner than later.
\n
\nJosh: I wouldn’t say so much embarrassing, but me and my wife were married
\non Halloween and we had a show booked that night and we decided to
\nshow up in our wedding attire. In the spirit of Halloween I wore a ball
\nand chain on my ankle and played the show in my suit. One of my
\nfavoriote moments for two reasons; if we’re booked, we’re playing. Life
\ntakes a backseat compared to our responsibilities to this band, and
\njust because it was a fun thing to do and made for a memorable show.
\n
\nRocket: With all the great metal releases so far in 2009, what albums have
\nbeen your personal favorites?
\n
\nHurley: Job For A Cowboy-Ruination
\nJay:- Behemoth-Evangelion
\nPat: Death By Stereo-Death Is My Only Friend
\nMark: Nile-Those Who The Gods Detest
\n
\nRocket: What are some of the upcoming shows for Sedna?
\n
\nMarK: We’re in the process of booking our tour dates for 2010 in support of

\nRocket: Where do you see yourselves as a band in ten years from now?
\n
\nPat: Being a success because we believed we could and would be and
\nrefused to accept anything less no matter how hard it got or how long
\nit took.

\nHurley: Hopefully waking up in the morning on a tour bus about to headline Wacken Open Air Fest in Germany.
\n
\nJay: Touring all four corners of the globe, once again continuing to do
\nwhat we do best and looking forward to the next 10.
\n
\nMark: In 10 years I would like to be known as one of the few bands that
\nwere able to give back to the music that gave so much to all of us and
\none that was always respected for continuing to follow its vision and
\nintegrity no matter what.
\n
\nJosh: The band that kept pushing along and has toured every continent,
\nseen every site and
\ndominated every stage we have ever been on.
\n
