In his latest interview in support of his upcoming debut solo album,\u00a0The Other Side of Mars<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0Mick Mars\u00a0opened up about the earliest days of his life when he knew he wanted to play guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wanted to be somebody that can bring my feelings and my love for music to [fans] so they can know what I\u2019m about,\u201d\u00a0Mars explained on\u00a0The Johnny Dare Morning Show<\/em><\/a>\u00a0on\u00a098.9 The Rock in Kansas City<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s hard for me to explain but I wanted to play music forever and ever and have it on the radio and have it on commercials and have it on TV or whatever \u2014 every place. That\u2019s [what I wanted] when I was 14. I said it to my mom once and she freaked out a little bit, but that was my determination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Mars told Johnny Dare<\/a>, once he realized that<\/em>, it was hard for him to try and lead what others might have considered a \u201cnormal\u201d life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI took periodic jobs here and there,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI worked in a motorcycle repair shop for a few months and I was taking bikes apart. The way that my hands would feel, I needed to go home and play my guitar because I didn\u2019t want my hands to lose that dexterity. I worked in other places where I mashed my left hand with a 600-pound barrel swing back on me \u2014 just a lot of different things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legendary guitarist explained that if he had simply wanted to play guitar in his spare time, those jobs he had would have been great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that\u2019s never what he wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnce you want something,\u201d he said, \u201cyou get to a certain point and you\u2019ve got two different paths.\u201d The path that Mars chose, as he described, found him living on the street or on friends\u2019 floors, but he has no regrets about any of that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can\u2019t tell you how many cover bands I was in so I could sustain and be able to eat. I wanted to do this. That\u2019s what I chose to do. I was determined to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
