ROCKET REVIEW: HELLYEAH – “Welcome Home” (CD)

Vinnie Paul’s swan song is absolutely ass kicking and groove metal at its most powerful!

HELLYEAH returns in 2019 with a new sensational studio effort, their sixth overall, titled “Welcome Home,” and it is the last album to feature late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer, Vinnie Paul Abbott. That being said, we are all lucky that he completed his drum tracks before his untimely death in 2018. Fans are in for a real treat with this release.

I was pleasantly surprised by how totally heavy this album sounds overall, so it is truly a befitting send off for Vinnie Paul, and Chad Gray’s top notch vocal performance is definitely what helps take the mostly grooving, face pulverizing collection of headbangers to a new level. A lot of fans want to see him back with his original band MUDVAYNE but I ca...

MAYHEM – Debut New Song

Black metal veterans MAYHEM have revealed the second new track from their forthcoming album, Daemon (out October 25 through Century Media). A lyric video for new song “Of Worms and Ruins” can be viewed above.

Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1984 in Oslo, Norway. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem’s early career was highly controversial, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin (“Dead”) and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth (“Euronymous”) by former member Varg Vikernes (“Count Grishnackh”) of Burzum.

The group released their Pure Fucking Armageddon demo and Deathcrush EP that were highly influent...

MIDNIGHT – Sign With Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome MIDNIGHT to its worldwide roster. By now, Midnight need no introduction. Guided by the twisted muse of main-man Athenar since 2003, this Cleveland cult have been slaying the metal/punk underground with their own, highly addictive brand of lust, filth, and sleaze, subsequently building up a sizable catalog and garnering a rabid fanbase. While there are certainly fanatics for the band’s early EP work, it was Midnight’s debut album, Satanic Royalty (2011), that entered the band’s name into the annals of “classic.” Never one to rush things (nor drop an EP along the way), Midnight continued their underground dominance with No Mercy for Mayhem in 2014, further perfecting their signature sound. With the band’s massively anticipated third album, Sweet...

SINNRS – Post New Lyric Video

Denmark’s symphonic black metallers SINNRS have unleashed the brand new lyric video “It Calls Me” off their latest album “Profound”, released last April by Italian label Extreme Metal Music

The lyric video for “It Calls Me” is available above.

“Profound” merges the furious brutality of extreme metal with the elegance of classical and opera, giving listeners a dimensional musical experience of their self-described pure dark matter. The juxtaposition of punishing guitar riffs and relentless blastbeats with symphonic arrangements and soaring vocals is fascinating in the way it highlights the inherent differences and similarities these genres have. While classical fans might balk at the savagery of SINNRS’ sound, metal enthusiasts will enjoy getting swept up in the epicnes...

ABBATH – Debut New Music Video

Norwegian black metal act ABBATH have premiered the official music video for their song “Hecate,” taken from the band’s latest full length, Outstrider. The video, which was shot by Francisco Munoz, can be viewed above.

Band Members

Abbath – Vocals & guitars
Ole Andre Farstad – guitars
Ukri Suviletho – Drums
Mia Wallace – Bass

At various times throughout Immortal’s existence, Abbath was lead vocalist, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, drummer, and lyricist, mainly due to the inconsistent line-ups they were able to put together. For a long period of time, however, Abbath served the band as vocalist, bassist and (studio) drummer while Demonaz played lead guitar. It was not until Horgh arrived that Immortal was able to secure a steady line-up, but problems continued...

It has always been hard to put a tag on GOJIRA, one of France’s most extreme bands the country’s musical pallet has ever known. But then again, the band has never really sought out such a tag, instead letting the music do the talking, preferring introspection and intelligence over preconceived notions and preexisting tags...

SLAYER – Post New Live Video

If there is any doubt that SLAYER will be sorely missed once the band performs the last show of its Final World Tour on Saturday, November 30, then check out the beginning of the band’s concert, Slayer’s entrance on stage, and opening song, “Repentless.”

Taken from the upcoming two-part Slayer: The Relentless Killogy motion picture and companion LP/CD release Live At The Forum in Inglewood, CA due out November 8 (Nuclear Blast), this is just a demonstrable taste of why Slayer has been one of the most influential thrash/punk/metal bands of the last 35-plus years, why an up-and-coming rock band’s professional “rite of passage” is simply surviving an entire Slayer tour as the opening band, and why Slayer’s live shows are “must-see events.”

Check the clip out above.
