ROCKET REVIEW: THREE THIRTEEN – “Full Tilt” (CD)

Former FLATLINE guitarist Randy Weitzel has unleashed one of the surprise rockers of 2011 with his new band THREE THIRTEEN. The self-released collection of nine high-octane tracks is entitled Full Tilt and it kicks off aggressively like a drag strip race car with “Blaster”, a totally ripping song that features Weitzel’s blazing guitar skills and quirky but perfectly over-the-top vocals. The album oozes with that 70’s Rock N Roll vibe of just letting it all “hang out”, and that’s just what you the get on other head-bangers like “One For The Road”, “Skool Daze”, and my personal favorite “City of Devils”.

I was thoroughly impressed by the overall production by Weitzel and co-producer Chris Howorth of IN THIS MOMENT fame. Track eight’s “Living In Stereo” comes off like an intro to a porn film soundtrack, but you can’t help but get caught up in the literal cheesy camp that Weitzel has injected into Full Tilt mostly due to his scorching Ace Frehley-on-steroids guitar attack, because it just straight up rocks your face off. I can’t wait to hear what 3/13 develops into, because I think that with a little more polish and work under the hood, this band could become a serious act to contend with. I feel it’s all up to how much harder Weitzel and the boys want to push this killer Heavy Metal machine.
