Legendary Los Angeles based shock metalers SOCIETY 1 have issued their debut release for Crash Music entitled “The Years Of Spiritual Dissent“, a two-disc CD/DVD set, mainly consisting of material from past albums: the groundbreaking “Slacker Jesus” and highly experimental “Words As Carriers”, more than demonstrating that the NIN, Ministry and Marilyn Manson influence from the early recordings to present day studio work for this band is extremely evident, but still not able to deny mainman Matt “The Lord” Zane’s underestimated songwriting prowess and reigning status in the underground heavy music scene as the most outrageous live performer today. Society 1 even throws us all a curve with the creepy and overtly synth’d out rendition of Black Sabbath’s “Who Are You” here equating to what is a moment of utter brilliance. Devoted 1 fans will not be disappointed from start to finish on disc one. It’s the spoken word and in-depth interview on disc two that you’ll want to checkout. If it’s one thing even a hater of the enigmatic Zane and crew will say: “Society 1 always keeps you guessing about what they will do next.”
