According to reports from U.K. publications The Guardian and The Telegraph, famed actor, singer, and heavy metal star Christopher Lee has died at the age of 93 after being hospitalized for respiratory problems and heart failure. Apparently, Lee’s death occurred days ago, but his wife wished to inform family and close friends before public disclosure.
Lee, best known for roles as Dracula and Saruman in Lord of the Rings, also broke into the world of heavy metal with his solo album (future releases under the Charlemagne moniker) “Sings Devils, Rogues & Other Villains (From Broadway to Bayreuth and Beyond)” in 1998, and followed up with three more full length albums, culminating with the EP “Metal Knight” and the Christmas single “Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing” in 2014. Lee also appeared as narrator and vocalist over the course of 7 years with Rhapsody of Fire, beginning with the 2004 EP “The Dark Secret,” and most famously his appearance on the track “The Magic of the Wizard’s Dream” from the full length album “Symphony of Enchanted Lands II – The Dark Secret.” Lee also narrated the 2010 version of Manowar’s “Dark Avenger” (originally narrated by the late Orson Wells).
