American thrashers THE KING MUST DIE have self-released the debut full-length album entitled “Sleep Can’t Hide The Fear” in 2014. This is one of the more promising thrash bands to emerge from the underground in recent memory. They kick off the collection of twelve stone cold slam dancers with “Confidential Confidence”, a rowdy pit starter for sure. It’s got that SUICIDAL TENDENCIES feel circa “Lights, Camera, Revolution”.

The production, recorded with Nick Botelho at NB Recording, is top notch and the head-crushing rhythm is just what a diehard metal head like me wants, totally unrelenting delivery; thanks to drummer Corky Crossler and bassist Scott Paterson. Next up is the catchy yet punishing “Your Grip Is”, followed by the simply balls to the walls “No Forgiveness”. Lead vocalist, Doggie, has the quirky vocal approach of Anthony Kiedis and Mike Patton, while guitarists Kent Varty and Mike Sloat team up for some truly inspired shredding on each track. The duo offers up an endless supply of fury-laced riffs. You will not be disappointed either by the technically brilliant guitar solos that are delivered. They intensity does not let up on the next set of thrashing cuts: “The Mountains Wept”, “This Invisible Disease”, and my personal favorite, the absolutely epic “The Birth of War”.

The steamrolling of thrash continues on the even more ticked off as all hell tracks “Treacherous and True”, “Notongue” and the ass kicking “Fall of Man”. Vocalist Doggie gets more wicked sounding on these cuts for me, and even the guitar work somehow seems to rise to another level. The album finishes solidly with “You Know This”, “Sinthetically Wasted”, and “This Day This Life”. Any fan of old school and modern thrash metal will love this band. They don’t just come off as yet another classic thrash clone. They give us their own unique take. The songs are well crafted, unpredictable, have effective back up vocals – and move along at a punk-pissed pace. What could be any better than that?
