ROCKET REVIEW: NONPOINT – “Miracle” (CD)

American alternative metal band NONPOINT have issued their sixth studio album entitled Miracle via Rocket Science. While the band does a half-decent job covering PANTERA’s “5 Minutes Alone”,
I am afraid there’s only a couple other ‘half-worthy of a listen’ tracks on Miracle – which features new guitar player Zach Broderick. It all falls a bit short for my heavy tastes, and it’s not like these guys didn’t have a great producing team on this effort.

Have you ever heard of MUDVAYNE and HELLYEAH? Yes, that’s right, Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett helmed the top notch production here (recorded in Racine, Wisconsin) and are totally dead on in polishing the songs as the best they can. To kick it all off, the CREED-sounding “Shadow” and title track “Miracle”, while both not entirely disgraceful – just seem to lack the originality that this band is in dire need of. One word comes to mind: generic. I probably would have kept Gray away from the guest vocal appearance on “Miracle” too, because that made the song sound way too much like MUDVAYNE.

It’s truly frustrating to hear the potential… only to get a bunch of radio-friendly crap thrown back
in your face. Does NONPOINT actually think they are ever going to grow as a band by not challenging their song structures and lyrical content? Probably not… but then again, they will need a serious Miracle, in my mind, to get better as a band at this point.
